Obama to nominate Marine general as chair of Joint Chiefs of Staff

President Barack Obama will nominate Marine General Joseph Dunford to be the
next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The official announcement is expected to come Tuesday, with Dunford replacing Army General Martin Dempsey, who is retiring after serving two two-year terms.

Dunford was involved in the Iraq war, where he helped lead the 2003 invasion,
and the war in Afghanistan, where he helped US forces transfer more
responsibility to Afghan troops.
